Lewisburn Bridge shortlisted for accolade
29-09-2009
Lewisburn Bridge, the spectacular new structure at Kielder Village in Northumberland, has made the shortlist for the Prime Minister’s Better Public Building Award. Here at Great Circle Rigging we’re particularly proud of the achievement having worked as a partner on the project by manufacturing the support wires for the structure.
The 50 metre long, 1.5m wide post and cable structure was created as an alternative to an earlier suggestion of using an existing highway bridge for a new walkway, and has proven to be a design success. Created to appear in keeping with the surrounding environment, it is hoped that the curving footbridge will become a visitor attraction in the area
“This delightful timber walkway is the latest addition to the 25-mile route around Europe’s largest man-made lake,” said the Judges’ comment.
